Paratriathlon
Eligibility criteria
Paratriathlon events are open to anyone with a disability wishing to push their limits by taking part in a triathlon or duathlon. In fact, this activity is designed to be inclusive, offering challenging options for both paratriathletes looking for an introductory sporting experience and paratriathletes seeking a challenging or competitive experience.
Classification
In Quebec, there are six categories of disability in paratriathlon. This classification uses the athlete’s mode of locomotion, not his or her handicap, to determine a category. This classification is inspired by the French Triathlon Federation (FFTri).
This classification system shares some similarities with that of World Triathlon, where medical examinations are required to obtain official identification:
- Paratriathlete wheelchair classification (PTWC)
- Paratriathlete visual impaired (PTVI) classification
- Paratriathlete standing ranking (PTS)
