Bike and run is done in teams of two, with a single bike. One member runs; the other rides. Athletes exchange bikes whenever and wherever they like. The winning team is the first to cross the finish line. Strategy plays a big part, depending on individual strengths. Cycling and racing can be practised on the road or in the mountains.
The 2 distance options are 10 or 21 km.
Bike and run is derived from Ride & Run, an equestrian sport originating in the USA, where the team is made up of two riders and a horse. Riders and runners take it in turns to take part in a wilderness course.
Created in the early 1970s, this sport was transformed by American triathletes in the 1990s, who replaced the horse with a bicycle.
