Quebec Elite/Junior and U13/U15 championships honoured at Duchesnay Triathlon!

August 9, 2021

On Saturday, August 7, the second legs of the Grand Prix Series and Quebec Cup presented by Spark Sports Nutrition took place on the banks of the Jacques Cartier River. The Duchesnay triathlon hosted the U13, U15, Junior and Elite/U23 Quebec championships.

Grand Prix Series – Quebec Championship 2021

In the absence of Charles Paquet and Kira Gupta-Balthazar, winners of the first stage in Gatineau, a number of athletes could lay claim to this second stage in sprint format.
The men were the first to start, and it was Oliver Desjardins who was first out of the water, followed by a group of around ten athletes. This group quickly caught up with the young athlete from the Hippocampe club and worked together to keep the two chasing pack at bay. Victory finally came down to a race between three Rouge et Or athletes, Mathis Beaulieu, Filip Mainville and Léo Roy. In the end, it was the first named who managed to get the better of his compatriots and win the gold medal. This performance enabled him to take the lead in the Grand Prix Series after his second-place finish in Gatineau. He was joined on the podium by Filip Mainville (57:13) and Léo Roy. Mathis Beaulieu (57:04) took the Junior Quebec title ahead of Léo Roy (57:22) and Nolan Turgeon (59:22). Filip Mainville was crowned Quebec Elite/U23 champion ahead of Zed Roy (57:34) and Nicolas Harvey (57:50).
In the women’s race, the day’s favourite Emy Legault (1:03:53) emerged from the water accompanied by Claudie Simard, Maïra Carreau and Noémie Bealieu. On the bike, the four athletes managed to maintain their lead over a second pack led by Sévérine Bouchez. In the run, Tri-O-Lacs athlete Emy Legault (1:03:53) came out on top, taking the overall lead in the Grand Prix Series. Noémie Beaulieu (1:04:04) came second, ahead of Maïra Carreau (1:04:27).
The Gatineau athlete retained her title of Quebec junior champion, ahead of Maïra Carreau and Marika Couture (1:04:59). In the Élites/U23 category, Emy Legault climbed to the top of the podium ahead of Sévérine Bouchez (1:04:30) and Kamille Larocque (1:04:43).

Quebec Youth Cup – Quebec U13/U15 Championship 2021

Unlike the first stage in the Outaouais region, the mass start and trail were back for these provincial championships. As in Gatineau, Samantha Wood (Tri-O-Lacs) won the U15 women’s race, followed by Charlotte Fournier (Jet Triathlon) and Béatrice Normand (Tri-O-Lacs). In the men’s U15 category, following Léandre Binette’s disqualification due to a course error, the honours went to Patrick David, followed byAlexandre Lavigne and Léo Savoie. In the U13 women’s category, Allyson Lavallé topped the podium, followed by Danika Robert and Catherine Chevrier. Finally, in the U13 men’s category, Zachary Mecteau, Robi Racine and Matisse Émond rounded out the podium at the 2021 Quebec Championship.

Quebec Cup – Olympic Distance

After a 1st stage on the sprint distance, participants in the Quebec Cup presented by Spark Sports Nutrition were offered a second stage on the Olympic format, still with a rolling start to respect the distance. In the men’s race, victory went to former Quebec Team athlete Gabriel Legault (2:03:44) of the Rouge et Or, ahead of first stage winner Antoine Michaud (2:04:43) and Jérémie Toutant (2:08:36). In the women’s race, Rouge et Or athlete Rachel Quirion-Arguin (2:17:22) fulfilled a long-held dream, lifting the banner by just eight seconds ahead of stage 1 winner Alice Cote-Allard (2:17:30) and 2019 Quebec Cup winner Andrée-Anne Dumont(2:20:25).
