Triathlon Québec had quite a weekend! Our community was lucky enough to enjoy fine weather and sunshine at the World Sprint and Relay Championships in Montreal and the Subaru IRONMAN 70.3, 5150 and Sprint in Mont-Tremblant. Several athletes climbed the world rankings!
Elite
In the Old Port of Montreal, athletes of all levels competed in the streets (and river!) of the metropolis. In the elite category, well-known names such as Emy Legault, Jérémy Briand and Charles Paquet took part in the event. Fresh back from Mexico, where she made her first international podium finish, Legault took 12th place with a time of 24 min 22 s in the Super Sprint. The athlete put on quite a show for the Montreal crowd on his way to the second leg of the finals, making a spectacular comeback in the running portion.
On the men’s side, Jérémy Briand and Charles Paquet proudly represented Canada. Briand came in 33rd with a time of 20min 17s, while Paquet slipped to 19th place in 22min 37s. During the qualifying round, Briand was caught up in the chaos of a bike crash and didn’t make it past the repechage stage. For Paquet, the athlete made it through to the second round of the finals, with a huge catch-up on the bike portion.
In the team event, the foursome of Emy Legault, Tyler Mislawchuk, Charles Paquet and Dominika Jamnicky were by no means the competition favourites. With a total time of 1 h 29 min and 6 s, they proved extremely competitive and came in 5th.
Junior/U23
Our junior and U23 athletes celebrated St. John’s Day with a bang at the World Championships! A total of 5 Quebec athletes wore the Canadian uniform. In the women’s race, Noémie Beaulieu finished just short of the podium. The young athlete finished just seconds behind the bronze medallist. Her compatriot Clara Normand came 24th with a cumulative time of 1 hr 1 min 5 s. On the men’s side, Mathis Beaulieu, Louis Marchand and Nathan Grondin took part in the competition. Beaulieu took 7th place, finishing the race in 52 min 19 s. Marchand and Grodin finished 43rd and 48th respectively at the championships. With these times, we can be sure to see these names in other world rankings in the near future.
In the mixed relay, Filip Mainville, Pavlos Antoniades, Kira Gupta-Baltazar and Colette Reimer represented Canada. Like the elites, the team finished in 5th place with a time of 1 h 26 min 21 s, just 4 seconds behind 4th place occupied by the Hungarians.

Just a few hours from Montreal, there was another major event: the Subaru IRONMAN 70.3 in Mont-Tremblant! Participants were clearly ready and waiting, with over 2300 entries! That’s in addition to the more than 1,000 registrations for the 5150 and the sprint the day before!
In the men’s PRO category, Ontario’s Lionel Sanders took top honors. Spectators witnessed an epic scene when Sanders fell well behind on the bike portion due to a flat tire. The athlete managed to catch up with his competitors and was able to take 1st place. Quebecer Nicolas Gilbert took 11th place with a remarkable time of 4 h 2 min 42 s. In the PRO Women’s category, Tamara Jewett of Canada won the race in 4 h 19 min 30 s. Pamela-Ann St-Pierre of Canada took 5th place with a time of 4 h 35 min 16 s.
In the overall men’s standings, 3 Quebecers occupied the podium. Congratulations to Simon Leblanc, Jérémie Martin and Zed Roy! On the women’s side, American Katie Colville took first place, while Alice Côté-Allard and Andrée-Anne Dumont, both from the province, were 2nd and 3rd respectively.
In the team event, we’d like to mention the incredible performance of Université Laval’s Rouge et Or athletes. The group achieved the second-best team time.
