Triathlon Québec is proud to present the athletes of the month for July: Maud Marel and Thomas Têtu. These two athletes from the Quebec City region have undeniably demonstrated a great deal of rigor and tenacity over the summer season. The water must be good in the Quebec City region!
Maud Marel won not one, but two titles this summer! In addition to a top 10 finish at the World Sprints & Relays Championships, she topped the podium in the GA Sprint event at the Joliette Triathlon. Unstoppable, she repeated her feat at the Gatineau Triathlon.
Like his compatriot, Thomas Têtu was also on the podium. In Magog, he picked up a silver medal in the CQ GA Sprint event, while in Gatineau, he walked away with gold. Thomas is also involved with the triathlon community in Quebec through his work as a coach and event organizer.
We had the chance to chat with them about their achievements and their intentions for the rest of the season.

Q1. What are you most proud of in your recent accomplishments?
R1 – Thomas
I’m proud to be able to combine training, coaching and having fun in all contexts.
R1 – Maud
I’m proud that my results reflect the investment and progress I’ve made since arriving in Quebec 2 years ago.
Q2. Who has helped you the most so far in your athletic career? Why or why not?
R2 – Thomas
In my case, I don’t consider myself an “athlete”. I do it for pleasure, while hoping to perform well. There are many people who count, like my coaches (Mariane Julien, Pierre-Yves Gigou, Nicolas Proulx-Begin and Jérôme Bergeron) and especially all the athletes in the competitive age group at the club, who are a source of motivation and inspiration every day!
R2 – Maud
I could make a long list! For me, triathlon is above all a human adventure. I’m surrounded by a group of inspiring people. The most important is my coach Nicolas Proulx-Bégin. For the past 2 years, he’s been following me, advising me and helping me learn the sport I’ve only been doing for a few years. He listens to all my concerns and questions.
Q3. Rank swimming, cycling and running in order of preference.
R3 – Thomas
Swimming, cycling, then running.
R3 – Maud
It varies quite a bit over the year but at the moment: swimming > cycling > running.
Q4. Apart from your sport, what is your greatest passion?
R4 – Thomas
Travelling.
R4 – Maud
Windsurfing. I practised this sport for 10 years.
Q5. What are your goals for the current season?
R5 – Thomas
My goal was the Alpe d’Huez Long Distance Triathlon, but in the end it didn’t go so well. Are you looking forward to revenge in 2023? You never know!
R5 – Maud
My main objective was the World Sprints and Relays Championships in Montreal, which took place in June. The rest of the season is all about fun and new (trail) challenges!
Q6. What is your ultimate goal?
R6 – Thomas
Stay in shape and continue to share great sporting and human experiences by practicing triathlon and other sports all year round!
R6 – Maud
Above all, I want to continue to enjoy training. Competitions and objectives will follow according to my desires.
