After a 2021 season with a very condensed calendar, we hope that 2022 will mark a return to near normality. We’ll be back to a Quebec Cup more usual, with a selection of six races (only the best three scores will be counted) for both triathlon and duathlon. The Coupe Québec 2022 will take place over a full season, from early June to September. On the program: the return of the great classics, the Quebec Sprint and Olympic Distance Championships, the return of the Enduro and the appearance of a newcomer. We’re sure that all these elements will bring their share of surprises and highlights once again this year!

So, as planned, the Coupe Québec Triathlon 2022 returns to the basics. Alternating sprint and Olympic distances, a sprint stage with criss-crossing and a special event with the Enduro format taken from Superleague. All stages will be scored on 1000 points, except for the Quebec sprint distance championship, which will be scored on 1200 points. Unfortunately, the “Quebec Triple Crown” challenge has been postponed until summer 2023.
Quebec Cup Committee
Since 2020, the Quebec Cup committee, made up of athletes and a coach, has met from time to time to review all aspects of the Quebec Cup. They are responsible for the choice of events, the scoring method, the number of stages and the addition of special formats where appropriate. They have therefore decided on the events for the 2022 calendar, which is presented below in this article. We’d like to thank them enormously for their dedication and creative ideas, all on a voluntary basis.
Here are the changes for next season
The Quebec Cup is the most prestigious adult age-group series in Quebec. It is open to athletes aged 16 and over who are members of Triathlon Québec, regardless of their level. It enables athletes to accumulate points in a high-quality provincial competition network.
The 2022 calendar is made up of six events running from June 5 to September 3, 2022. The idea is not to have too many events, in order to encourage a high level of participation at each stage, and to offer athletes more opportunities to reconcile work-family-sport-holidays by spreading the series out over time as much as possible.
The selection of distances and different formats is always a complex process, as we want every triathlete to find something to his or her liking. We have therefore chosen to offer a calendar that combines classicism, originality and novelty.
The Quebec sprint distance championship in Joliette will be scored on 1200 points, in order to gather as many athletes as possible on the same stage. The Quebec Olympic Distance Championship, to be held in Drummondville, will be scored on 1000 points, so as not to penalize 16 and 17 year-old athletes who are unable to compete in this distance.
For 2022, all member athletes will receive points for the overall ranking, unlike in 2019, when only the top 50 received points. In addition, only the top 20 positions will be decremented by 7.5%, as is currently the case. From rank 21 onwards, positions will be decremented by 2.5% to reduce the gap and distortion that can occur on stages with fewer participants.
Quebec Spark Cup scores will be awarded to Triathlon Quebec members only, but trophies and medals for each stage will be awarded to the top three finishers, whether or not they are members of the federation. Only the top three scores will count towards the final standings. Athletes completing less than three stages will not be counted in the rankings.

Here is a description of the six (6) stages that make up the Coupe Québec 2022. Dare to take up the challenge of the series!
The return of a great classic for what is traditionally the opening event of the Quebec Cup. The first stage of the sprint distance will be the Quebec Championship without furrows. A good way to measure your fitness level and target your opponents for the season!
The first Olympic-distance stage in the series, and also the Quebec Championship without furrowing. This 30th edition promises to be epic, with a re-asphalted bike section!
A special event in Gatineau with the return of theENDURO and a mixed start… men and women at the same time! You’ll have to complete 3 x 300m swim, 6.6km bike and 1.5km run, consecutively. A total of eight transitions. Don’t worry, there will be a lot more mats in 2022 and a lot less running in the transition zone.
For its 27th edition, the Magog Trimemphré will offer you the opportunity to race over a sprint distance. A great opportunity to practice for those who want to take part in the World Championships in 2023! Please note: Road bikes without aero bars are compulsory for races with cross-country sections.
For 2022, Duchesnay will host a sprint distance race. Two 10km bike loops and a beautiful shaded running course on a rock dust trail.
It’s the new feature of the Coupe Québec 2022! The general enthusiasm and outpouring of positive comments following the 2021 event convinced the committee to award a stage in its second edition. A great way to close the season in a magnificent region that’s opening up to triathletes!
We look forward to (re)seeing you in 2022 on the Quebec Cup circuit. Enjoy your training until then!
