FONDATION NORDIQUES TO DISTRIBUTE OVER $400,000 IN OLYMPIC YEAR

Quebec City, May 29, 2024 – With the Paris Olympics as a backdrop, the Fondation Nordiques has announced that it will donate a whopping $400,000 to amateur athletes and charitable organizations in the Quebec City and Chaudière-Appalaches region.

Support for student-athletes

For this annual distribution, 121 student-athletes were selected by the “Excellence – Elite – Up-and-Coming – Hope” program analysis committee. As a result, the Foundation will be awarding $297,500 in scholarships: 23 Gold scholarships ($4,000), 39 Silver scholarships ($3,000) and 59 Bronze scholarships ($1,500). What’s more, in this Olympic year, all athletes taking part in the Paris Games this summer (and who meet the Foundation’s usual eligibility criteria) will automatically receive an additional $5,000 bursary on top of their regular scholarship.
The names of the bursary recipients will be announced after the Games. “Amateur athletes from around the world will experience a unique moment when they take part in the Paris Games, which will be of exceptional quality. We wish our Canadian athletes the best of luck, and we are very proud to financially support the local athletes who will be taking part,” said Marcel Aubut, President of the Foundation.

Support for twelve (12) organizations

Finally, the Foundation will donate $60,000 to twelve (12) organizations for the purchase of equipment or the improvement of infrastructure: École des Ursulines de Québec ($8,500), ESQL ($8,000), Centre psycho-pédagogique de Québec ($7,500), École Madeleine-Bergeron ($6,000), École Joseph-Paquin ($5,000), Maison Suzanne Vachon ($5,000), Club de gymnastique Voltige de St-Georges ($4,000), Club de handball de Lévis ($4,000), Karaté Yoseikan Beauce ($3,000), Club d’haltérophilie de Beauce ($3,000), Club de natation de Beauce ($3,000) and Tournoi Hockey Féminin St-Georges ($3,000).

This new donation brings to $8,575,000 the total amount that the Fondation Nordiques has distributed to the community from its private funds since its creation. “We are receiving more and more requests from both student-athletes and charitable organizations. Costs have risen sharply in recent years, and we hope that our support will meet the most urgent financial needs,” concluded Fondation Nordiques Executive Director Nicolas Labbé.
