Fondation Nordiques supports five triathlon student-athletes

26 May 2022

Once again this year, the Fondation Nordiques has provided substantial financial support to over a hundred student-athletes in the Quebec City and Chaudière Appalaches region, including five triathletes. The recipients, who share $11,000 in bursaries, are Charles Paquet, Noémie Beaulieu, William Nolet, Marika Coutre and Mathis Beaulieu, five Quebec Team athletes who compete with Université Laval’s Rouge et Or club. Triathlon Québec would like to thank the Foundation for its ongoing support of top and up-and-coming athletes.

FONDATION NORDIQUES DONATES $359,500 TO LOCAL ATHLETES AND ORGANIZATIONS

Quebec City, May 19, 2022 – The Nordiques Foundation is pleased to announce that it has distributed a substantial $359,500 from its private funds as part of its annual presentation of scholarships to student-athletes and charitable donations to organizations in the Quebec City and Chaudière-Appalaches regions.

Athlete support

In terms of bursaries, 124 student-athletes were selected for the Excellence, Elite, Relève and Espoir programs. The analysis committee awarded 23 Gold scholarships ($4,000), 40 Silver scholarships ($2,500) and 61 Bronze scholarships ($1,500). “We received some excellent applications again this year, and we’re delighted to see that the next generation is flourishing,” says Nicolas Labbé, the Foundation’s Executive Director.

To these amounts must be added the $55,000 in Olympic scholarships that the Foundation announced last March, to support the 11 local student-athletes who took part in the Beijing 2022 Games and met the Foundation’s eligibility criteria.

Support for three organizations

Finally, in terms of charitable donations, the Foundation is pleased to donate the sum of $21,000 to three (3) organizations to support the realization of special projects: $7,500 to the Gala du Mérite Sportif Beauceron and the Fondation du Cégep de Ste-Foy, and $6,000 to ITSA, an organization working with autistic people. Today’s significant gesture brings to over $7,700,000 the total amount the Fondation Nordiques has distributed in the community since its creation.

Marcel Aubut is proud of this achievement. “The financial needs of both elite and up-and-coming athletes are constantly growing, and the same goes for community organizations. Our amateur athletes are role models for our youth, and it’s our duty to support them in achieving their goals. I’d like to thank the members of our Board of Directors for believing in this important cause from the very beginning of the Foundation,” said Fondation Nordiques’ President.
