As it does every year, Triathlon Québec’s Technical Committee reviews the rules published by World Triathlon and adapts or clarifies them according to the type of event and the different clienteles involved. Indeed, the regulatory approach differs between a World Series event and a Discovery Event dedicated to children or beginners. Here are the main elements that have been updated for the coming season.
All competition rules are available here. Summary documents have been produced for certain customer groups to bring together the most specific information.
Swimming
– Floatation shorts are forbidden, although wetsuits may be worn.
– When a wetsuit is optional or compulsory, a sleeveless wetsuit is authorized.
Bike
For races without furrows age group :
– An electric bike is allowed if the battery has been removed and the inspection has been confirmed by an official.
– The use of a rear-view mirror on the helmet or handlebars may be permitted and must be checked by the race official.
Bicycle pedals
– All types of pedals are permitted (platform, clip-on or toe-clip*).
– Footbraces with straps are permitted for age-group athletes only. However, they are forbidden for youth 1-2-3-4, U13 and U15 categories, as well as for track events.
Race
– Running shoes are now mandatory for the running part of the triathlon.
