A virtual 12-hour challenge beyond our expectations!

21 March 2021

At the time of writing, your donations have enabled us to raise $14,324 for our School Triathlon program. When we began to imagine this revamped version of our 12-Hour Challenge, it was hard to imagine such a sum and such a large number of participants (86). And what can we say about the sporting success!

It was 8:00 a.m. yesterday morning for the 12 teams and 11 solo participants in this first virtual edition of the 12-Hour Challenge. Before the official start of the event, we had the pleasure of welcoming live our President Sophie Yergeau, our General Manager Marie-Eve Sullivan and, of course, the man who has agreed to be the event’s spokesperson for a4th year, comedian and IronMan Maxim Martin. Once the athletes had been duly welcomed, the whole crew took their places on Watopia’s Tempus Fugit circuit. The circuit was deliberately flat, so that the number of kilometers covered would soar, and it’s safe to say that the objective was more than met!

While the athletes were logging kilometers, our Facebook page was buzzing with activity, and we’d like to thank all the guests who made the day so special. A big thank you to : Maxim Martin, Gabriel Filippi, Kim St-Vincent(Spark Sports Nutrition) and Émilie-Julie Dumontier, Benoit-Hugo St-Pierre and Isabelle Gagnon (not forgetting their two daughters), Antoine Jolicoeur Desroches, Jérémie Martin, Francis Martin… A big thank you also to ASC Coaching for lending us their facilities, and especially to Jonathan Pépin and Alain Picard!

Now that we’ve said our thanks, let’s take a look at some of the most remarkable performances.
On the sporting front, congratulations first and foremost to Sandy Liboudan, who covered 250km in 9:45. We should also mention the performances of Michelle Lavergne (230km), Myriam Lefebvre (182km), Aude Rosini (180km) and Virginie Allard (142km).
Among the men, it’s impossible not to highlight Antoine Jolicoeur Desroches’ 400km, Mattews Gagnon’s 410km and Alex Landry-Simard’s 304km with 3,808 m of D+, who chose a different route.
But
what can we say about the performance of our leading trio… Jérémie Martin, Olivier Moisan and Benoit Lacroix take “the win” with a surreal total of 458km in 12h…. Simply monstrous! The three athletes confided to us that they did the 12 hours together, and that it all came down to a breathless final sprint, which was finally won by Benoit Lacroix.

In terms of donations, special thanks to Olivier Moisan ($835), Alex Landry-Simard ($725) and Gilles Marleau ($500), who made up the individual podium. Among the teams, the Quebec U23/Elite Team ($1635) was in first place, closely followed by the Dynamos Team ($1615) and the Quebec Junior Team ($1520).

Thank you to all participants and donors for helping us pursue our mission to help young people, particularly those in underprivileged areas, gain access to sports and develop healthy lifestyle habits!
