Duathlon is a linked sport derived from triathlon. It comprises a combination of running and cycling, plus a second portion of running. Distances vary according to the event.
The first duathlon-type races were held in New York in 1985. At the time, it was called a “biathlon”. The first event of its kind was held in Switzerland in 1989. Duathlon is managed by the International Triathlon Federation, which has organized short- and long-distance world championships since 1990.
