School Triathlon Program

The school triathlon program is a complete sporting adventure combining swimming, cycling and running. It builds endurance, motivation and team spirit, while making physical activity fun and accessible to all!

The program promotes physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits among schoolchildren. Its values are participation and respect for self and others. The program has three components:

  • TRISCO event
  • 1-2-TRI SCO!
  • Driving towards success

TRISCO event shutter

The TRISCO event component is a service offered by Triathlon Québec that provides support to school organizers wishing to organize a triathlon.

If you’d like to organize a triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon or winter triathlon at your school, we’ll be happy to help you make it a success! If you register your school with TRISCO, we’ll offer you the following services:

  • FREE – online event resources
  • FREE – online resources to prepare students for the event (1-2-TRI SCO!)
  • FREE – 24/7 technical support by e-mail and telephone
  • FREE* – loan of an inflatable arch for your event
  • FREE* – gifts for all participants

Eligibility criteria

  • Organizing a triathlon, duathlon or multi-sport event
  • Use the 1-2-TRI SCO! preparatory program for a minimum of 4 weeks before the event (summer triathlon only)
  • Responsible for the collection and return of equipment to the Triathlon Québec offices within the required timeframe:
    • In the Expédibus department, picking up and returning equipment
    • Outside the Expédibus department, pick up and return equipment to the Triathlon Québec offices.

Section 1-2-TRI SCO!

1-2-TRI SCO! is a school-based version of the 1-2-TRI GO! program used in clubs. It is simpler to use than 1-2-TRI GO! and more in line with school reality. It consists of a repertoire of skills to be acquired, classified into seven levels. Teachers have a number of tools at their disposal, such as guides, worksheets and assessments to hand out to participants. Children who, thanks to 1-2-TRI SCO! discover an interest in triathlon, can continue their progression in a club through the 1-2-tri GO! program. A recognized club coach can summarily re-evaluate what has been learned and recognize the skills acquired at school.

Rolling to success section

The ROAD TO SUCCESS component provides fleets of bicycles to schools in disadvantaged areas wishing to integrate duathlon/triathlon into their physical education program, in particular through the other two components of the School Triathlon program. The equipment is loaned under these conditions for the first three years, and if the school wishes to continue using it, the bikes become the property of the school from the fourth year onwards. This program is made possible by the Canadian Children’s Foundation, which to date has generously donated $120,000 to the Federation. There is also a significant contribution from Jimmy Sévigny and all the generous donors who have helped make the School Triathlon program a success.

When Triathlon Québec has fleets of bicycles to donate, a call for applications is issued, followed by a selection based on the following criteria:

  • Deprivation index
  • The quality of the application
  • The benefits of joining duathlon/triathlon
  • Innovative projects
  • Customers served
  • The number of people affected

This program is part of the Federation’s commitment to pursue its mission to help young people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, gain access to sport and adopt healthy lifestyle habits. The initiative is financed exclusively by donations. With the Placements Sports program, all donations of $25 or more will receive a 350% tax credit. Tax receipts will be issued for all donations of $25 or more.
